Europa: Moses Out Of Chelsea – Vidi Clash Over Injury, Iwobi Targets First Goal

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, has disclosed that Nigeria winger ,  Victor Moses will miss Thursday’s (today)  UEFA Europa League clash against Hungarian side,  Vidi due to injury.

Moses, 28, is yet to recover from a back injury he suffered in November and will miss his team’s last Group L tie in Hungary.

He  has found game time limited under Sarri this season and has been linked with a move to former club,  Crystal Palace in January.

It’s the 11th straight game the Nigerian will miss since he came in as a 57th minute substitute for Willian in the Blues’ 3-1 defeat of BATE Borisov in a Europa League game on October 25 at Stamford Bridge.
Since then, the Nigerian has not made Mauriccio Sarri’s matchday squad for the following 10 games viz two in the Europa League, seven in the Premier League and one in the EFL (Carabao) Cup.
Moses was absent in Chelsea’s final training session at Cobham Wednesday morning before the squad  jetted out to Hungary for tonight’s game.
The former Super Eagle has appeared in only two Europa League games this season and was subbed on on both occassions against MOL Vidi and BATE Borisov, both at Stamford Bridge for a combined 49 minutes of action.

“I don’t know the starting XI. I decided the players who played three matches in six days in the last week had to rest for this match: Kepa, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Kante and Hazard,” Sarri told Chelsea’s official website.

“Then we have three injuries: Kovacic, Cahill and Moses. All the other players are here.”

Moses has made  just five appearances  for Chelsea across all competitions this season.

He has made two substitute appearances in the Europa League for the Blues.

Chelsea have already booked their spot in the knockout round of the competition as Group L leaders with 15 points from five matches.

While Moses’ future at Chelsea looks very bleak, his compatriot Alex Iwobi looks to have played himself into reckoning in the Arsenal squad.
Iwobi will be gunning for his first Europa League goal in 11 attempts tonight when Arsenal host Azerbaijani side, Qarabag FK at the Emirates stadium.
Iwobi has appeared four times in the Europa League so far this term and has provided two assists.
He has featured 10 times in the competition  since he made his debut against Cologne in September 2017.
