Manchester United have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Europa League after defeating FC Rostov 1-0 in their second leg round of 16 clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night to go through 2-1 on aggregate.
United’s goal was scored by Juan Mata on 70 minutes, after he finished off Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s assist.
The win means United are now unbeaten in their 16 European games at Old Trafford ( 13 wins, three draws).
The downside to the victory for United, however, is that their £89m midfielder Paul Pogba limped off with what looked like a hamstring injury early in the second half.
At the Stadio Olimpico, AS Roma beat Olympique Lyon 2-1 but crashed out 5-4 on aggregate.
Mouctar Diakhaby gave Lyon the lead in the 16th minute before Kevin Strootman equalised for Roma a minute later.
An own-goal by Lucas Tousart gave Roma a 2-1 lead but Lyon held on to advance into the last four.
In an all-German affair, Schalke 04 played 2-2 against Borussia Monchengladbach to qualify on the away goals rule.
The first leg had ended 1-1 at Schalke which brought aggregate score to 3-3.
