Nigeria teenage sensation Samuel Chukwueze scored a spectacular freekick as Diamond Academy thrashed New Generation FC 3-1 in the first match of the 2016 Diamond Cup in Umuahia, Abia state.
In the presence of foreign scouts and Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf, the junior international who is reportedly set for a move to FC Porto got his team going with an 11th minute strike before two more first-half goals from Michael Dominion and Chima Lewechi for Diamond Academy prevented a potential fightback by New Generation FC.
Speaking after the match, the Chile 2015 U-17 World Cup bronze boot winner was delighted with his performance and the intensity of the game as he gets set for a January move to Europe.
He said: "I feel good about my performance. The intensity of the match was high and I'm happy with my goal. This is a platform for young players to showcase their talent."
In other matches, Viable Stars of Enugu lost 2-0 to Diamond Academy team B, while New Generation and Oyah Sports of Suleja settled for a goalless draw.
The three-days invitational tournament which is being organized by the president of Diamond Football Academy Prince Martin Apugo will see teams from across the country battle for honours with the winner going home with a cash prize, while top performers will also get individual awards.
