Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho was an unused substitute as Manchester City qualified for the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup after demolishing West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium on Friday night.
Goals from Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero, John Stones, David Silva and a Haavard Nordtveit own goal secured the emphatic win for City.
It was West Ham’s worst ever home defeat in FA Cup history as they had never lost by a five-goal margin on their own ground.
City were in control in the early parts of the first half but were unlucky not to score in the sixth and seventh minutes following superb defending from Haavard Nordtveit and Winston Reid.
City continued piling the pressure and almost broke the deadlock on 12 minutes through David Silva but goalkeeper Adrian denied his Spanish compatriot with his legs.
Two minutes later West Ham had their first real chance but Michail Antonio’s strike was parried away to safety by Willy Caballero.
City kept probing for the opening goal and were almost rewarded but Adrian made a magnificent save, tipping over Sergio Aguero’s goal-bound effort.
City’s persistence finally paid off when they took the lead on 32 minutes after Yaya Toure scored from the penalty spot following Angelo Ogbonna’s foul on Pablo Zabaleta.
In the 41st minute West Ham found themselves 2-0 down as Nordtveit put the ball into his own net off a cross from Bacary Sagna.
With two minutes left in the first half, City were 3-0 up through Silva who controlled Raheem Sterling’s cross before slotting past Adrian.
Five minutes into the second half City went 4-0 up, this time through Aguero who diverted Toure’s shot beyond Adrian.
In the 62nd minute Antonio sent close to scoring for West Ham but his header flicked off Nicolas Otamendi and went just wide.
City completed the rout in the 85th minute as Stones headed in from a corner kick to make it 5-0Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
