FA Uphold Liverpool Star Mane’s Three-Match Suspension

FA Uphold Liverpool Star Mane’s Three-Match Suspension

The Football Association have rejected Liverpool forward Sadio Mane’s appeal against his three-match suspension.
Mane was given a red card for dangerous play in the Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday, where he hurt City goalkeeper Ederson. Mane was subsequently suspended for three matches.

“Sadio Mane’s three-match suspension, which was effective immediately, remains in place after his claim of excessive punishment was rejected following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing,” the FA announced on Tuesday.

“The Liverpool forward was dismissed for serious foul play during the game against Manchester City on Saturday [9 September 2017].”

Liverpool went on to lose Sunday’s match 5-0 to Manchester City after Senegal star Mane’s dismissal.

  • I am yet to understand why Liverpool contested the red card given to Mane. Agreed Mane is a cool headed young man and he is respectful of his mates and even the referees. We love him whether you are a fan of Liverpool or not especially in Africa. That kick cannot be excused for whatever reason. It is too ‘one-kind’ an excuse that he didn’t see the goalkeeper rushing out. Liverpool would have just leave the matter instead of prolonging the discussion with an appeal. Let’s reverse the whole thing and assume that it was Mignolet that was whacked on the face, doer red-carded, red card contested and red card cancelled by FA. I think Jurgen Klopp would have sued the FA. I believe contesting the red card was an embarrassment to Mane considering how humble he is.
