Falcons Captain Not Fit To Face Mali

Nwabuoku doubtful for Olympic qualifier

Super Falcons captain and Biik Kazygurt FC midfielder, Evelyn Nwabuoku is a major doubt for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games first leg clash against Mali on Saturday in Abuja.

The former Rivers Angels playmaker recently switched to the Kazakhstani women’s football championship giants after she aided her side to secure the 2015 All Africa Games ticket at the expense of West African foes Mali and may be hard pressed to convince her side to release her almost immediately for the Olympic clash.

Nwabuoku is not the only key player on the doubtful list, as doubt hovers over the availability of Liverpool Ladies FC markswoman Asisat Oshoala, France-based striker Desire Oparanozie and USA-based Washington Spirit forward, Francisca Ordega.

The duo of Esther Sunday and Onome Ebi stayed home after the All Africa Games qualification campaign and will be available for the crucial two-legged final round Olympic Games clash against Mali.

Falcons spokeswoman, Gracious Akujobi said a clearer picture will emerge on Monday concerning the players who will be available for the crucial Olympic Games clash against Mali in Abuja on Saturday.

“We’ve two foreign-based players in camp at the moment namely Esther Sunday and Onome Ebi, they actually stayed back home after the All Africa Games qualifying match against Mali.
“Oparanozie returned to her club in France after the clash against Mali with a promise to be available for the Olympic Games tie against the same Mali.

“However, it’s one thing for a player to give her word and another for her club to grant her permission.

“Oshoala too returned to England immediately after the Mali’s game and right now we have yet to obtain firm commitment of her coming for the game.“Ordega just secured a new club in the USA and is trying fervently to settle down into the club assignment.

“Our captain, Nwabuoku, recently moved to Kazakhstani side Biik Kazygurt FC and equally needs to settle down”. Akujobi said. The seven-time African champions did not qualify for the women’s football event of the immediate past Olympic Games in London.
