Falcons Go For Glory: Nigerian Ladies Chase 7TH AWC Title

Super Falcons of Nigeria will attempt to reclaim the African title when they confront Cameroon in the final of the ninth African Women Championship, today, at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.

The six-time winners have been the most impressive side in the competition, winning all their games en-route the showpiece match, conceding a paltry three goals and hitting the back of the net 14 times in five games.

The Edwin Okon tutored side booked their passage into today’s final match following a 2-1 win over Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the last four.

The Indomitable Lioness edged past Cote d’Ivoire by the same score line after extra-time to book their  place in  the championship game.

Nigeria hammered the Indomitable Lionesses 5-0 in the final of the 2004 edition edition hosted by South Africa, with Perpetua Nkwocha grabbing four goals in the one-sided encounter while the last goal was from Vera Okolo.

The Cameroonians eliminated their eternal rivals from the 2012  Olympics in London.
Today’s game will be the second time both countries will be facing each other this year, following a 1-0 win for Nigeria in a friendly encounter at the Abuja National Stadium.

Both Nigeria and Cameroon have automatically qualified for next year’s World Cup in Canada and they enjoy an enduring rivalry.
