Former Wimbledon striker John Fashanu has tipped the U-23 Eagles to avoid a defeat in this weekend’s African U-23 Championship qualifier against Congo in Pointe Noire.
A Junior Ajayi brace helped the Samson Siasia side to a 2-1 win over Claude Leroy’s team in the first leg at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt two weeks ago.
Fashanu explains to Completesportsnigeria.com why he believes Siasia’s players will live up to expectations in the game.
“The players know the importance of the game. A defeat means they will not play at the Olympics, its as simple as that,” he said.
“I have a gut feeling that the Nigerian team can get a goal in this game against Congo, they just have to keep their discipline in defence.
“I hope they make it. It will be nice to watch Nigeria at the Olympics.”
A victory for Nigeria qualifies the country for the Championship to hold in December, which will serve as qualifiers for the men’s football event of the 2016 Rio Olympics.Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
