–Set up semi-final clash with Dolphins
By Sab Osuji:
Prime Football Club of Osogbo on Wednesday qualified for the semi-finals of the Federation Cup after defeating Gateway United FC of Abeokuta 4-2 on penalties after the full time ended 0-0.
It was a hard-fought game in which both sides showed the stuff they were made of, but Prime had most of the scoring opportunities which forced Gateway safehands, Ameh Godwin, to make several daring saves.
Prime keeper, Adejare Adeniyi, stopped two Gateway’s penalty kicks during the shootout to send his side yet again to the semi-finals, while Gateway safehands, Ameh Godwin, also saved two Prime’s kicks.
“We were well organised. These were two good teams against each other. I must commend the boys for showing great character and I want to dedicate the victory to the good people of the State of Osun and with God on our side, we will do the state proud,” club chairman, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi said.
Gateway coach, Henry Nwosu MON, rued a game that slipped away from his side’s palms.
“We’re unlucky to have lost the game. The luckier team won the game, but not the better side,” Nwosu said.
“It’s unfortunate. But our team isn’t used to playing on bumpy pitch like this. The difference wasn’t that much between us and Prime. But they advanced and I wish them the best.”
The 2012 Federation Cup giants will battle with Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt in the semi-finals.
