National Telecommunication operator, Globacom, has congratulated two-time African Champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba for winning the 2014 Federation Cup at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Sunday.
Enyimba, who recently lost the Globacom Premier League title to Kano Pillars Football Club, defeated Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt 2-1 in an enthralling encounter to cart away their fourth Federation Cup title and will now represent Nigeria at next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
“We congratulate the management, technical crew and players of Enyimba Football Club of Aba for their resilience and resolve, and look forward to the Club making Nigeria proud in the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup,” Globacom said in a statement in Lagos on Monday.
Enyimba went ahead in the 52nd minute through Glo Premier League top scorer, Mfon Udoh and increased the tally in the 73rd minute when Chinonso Okonkwo collected a pass from Victor Ezuruike and beat Dolphins’ goalkeeper flatly.
Dolphins’ only goal was scored in the 80th minute by Emem Edouk who emerged the Most Valuable Player of the final match.
“We particularly appreciate Enyimba’s success because this season has been one of the toughest for them as they struggled earlier on in the Glo Premier League. But the manner in which they bounced back to reckoning and almost clinched the Premier League trophy said a lot about the team’s pedigree in Nigerian football,” the statement added.
“We have maintained that the Federation Cup deserves all the respect we can accord it and we are delighted that the 2014 edition ended with good memories,” Globacom further said.
