Tennis legends Roger Federer and Serena Williams will face each other for the first time in their respective careers on New Year’s Day.
Between them, the two stars have won a staggering 43 Grand Slam titles over the course of their careers, but they have never previously pitted their talents against each other on court.
That will change on Tuesday, however, as the two greats of the game will come up against each other in the mixed doubles when Switzerland and the United States meet in the Hopman Cup.
Federer will be partnered by world number 37 Belinda Bencic, while Williams will play alongside emerging talent Frances Tiafoe.
Both players are looking forward to the showdown and Federer believes it will be an exciting one for tennis fans to watch. “It is very exciting for both of us and I hope a lot of tennis fans tune in and watch it,” said Federer.
Williams also feels it will be a unique opportunity to play against the most decorated player in the men’s game and it is a clash she has been looking forward to for a long time. “It’s like a dream come true,” the American said. “I have been looking forward to it. This is so cool.”
The match will also go a long way to deciding which team progresses through to Saturday’s Hopman Cup final, with Federer’s Swiss side currently sitting in pole position following their 3-0 demolition of Great Britain on Sunday.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
