Federer wary of ‘Real’ Djokovic

Roger Federer admits he is expecting a tough contest in Sunday’s final of the Cincinnati Masters against Novak Djokovic. The pair have not met since the semi-finals of the 2016 Australian Open, with both players having endured various injuries, and in Djokovic’s case, a loss of form since that meeting.

However, following the Serb’s victory at Wimbledon, he is looking to become the first ever player to win all nine Masters 1000 tournaments, though his record in the Cincinnati tournament against the Swiss ace is poor, losing all three finals against him.
Federer though is expecting a rejuvenated Djokovic to turn up, and does not expect an easy game.

“What’s nice about this, it’s like fresh,” Federer said. “It’s not like we have played in the last few weeks and everybody knows what to expect.
“A lot has happened since [our last meeting] with injuries both of us have been fighting, and we both came back strong again.
“Look what happened after the French. Everything turned. He could have won Queen’s, should have won Queen’s, maybe. Ends up winning Wimbledon and he’s back in another final. It looks like he hasn’t missed any tennis at all over the last few years.”
