Fellaini Stance Upsets Team-Mates

Marouane Fellaini’s recent new deal reportedly “upset” some of his team-mates still waiting to learn their own Old Trafford fate. The Belgium midfielder held his nerve this summer by running down his contract and was duly rewarded for his belligerent stance when the board handed him new terms, believed to be worth around £150,000 per week after tax, to avoid him walking away for nothing.

Sources at United’s Carrington training complex have suggested some did not appreciate how Fellaini ‘held the club to ransom’, especially as there are currently eight players now in the final 12 months of their contracts.

Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian, David de Gea, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Andreas Pereira and James Wilson are all being kept waiting although the club retains an option to extend those terms by a further year.

Spanish midfielders Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, along with left-back Luke Shaw, are able to walk at the end of the season and have refused to rock the boat despite being kept in limbo throughout the summer.

United insiders have hinted at some resentment as to how the club bent over backwards to retain 30-year-old Fellaini, possibly now at the expense of younger players who have made it clear they want to stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
