By Johnny Edward: Nigeria’s representatives at the annual FIBA Africa Champions Cup (ACC), Kano Pillars and Gombe Bulls are on the brink of elimination in the competition after losing their first two games, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Both teams have lost their opening two games in the competition and could be exiting the tournament if they suffer yet another defeat today (Wednesday).
The two Nigerian sides occupy fifth place in their respective groups after two rounds of matches.
Gombe Bulls lost their second game in the competition to Ferroviario Beira 71-60 on Tuesday afternoon after suffering a 90-62 in their first game on Monday against Union Sportive Monastir.
The Bulls won the first quarter 22-19 but lost the second quarter 24-15, tied the third 12-12 before slumping to a 16-11 in the final quarter.
Kano Pillars despite winning their first quarter against Inter Clube from Angola 20-17 in their second game, lost the remaining three quarters 21-20, 27-14 and 29-19. They had earlier lost their opening game 83-112 to Association Sportive de Sale.
Gombe Bulls will face Groupement Sportif des Pétroliers at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès today (Wednesday) at 1:30pm, while Kano Pillars Basketball Club will battle ASB New generation from DR Congo, looking for their first win.
The top four teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.
The second phase of the tournament will be played in a knockout format from the quarter-finals to the final.
