By James Agberebi: The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) have congratulated former Nigeria international Daniel Amokachi who turned 45 on Saturday.
The world governing body also saluted former Nigeria coach, German Berti Vogts, who took the Super Eagles to the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana where they lost in the quarter-finals to halt a run of three straight third-place finishes.
FIFA sent the birthday greetings on their verified Twitter handle and their official website, where they also mentioned former Nigeria defender Onyekachi Apam (31) and former Super Eagles midfielder Wilson Oruma (41).
The world football governing body also sent out birthday messages to legendary England goalkeeper Gordon Banks and former Germany and Super Eagles coach Berti Vogts.
“Happy birthday to Ali Alhabsi (36), Daniel Amokachi (45), Berti Vogts (71) and Gordon Banks (80),” FIFA was quoted on Twitter.
Amokachi made his debut for the Super Eagles in 1990 before retiring in 1999 after 44 appearances and 13 goals.
He represented Nigeria at the 1990 and 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Algiers and Tunisia respectively, winning the later with the Super Eagles.
He was a member of the Super Eagles swuad to the USA 1994 and France 1998 FIFA World Cups.
Also, Amokachi played a key role as Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles became the first African team to win gold in Olympic football event during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Games.
And at club level, he players for Club Brugge, Besiktas, Colorado Rapids and Everton with whom he won the 1995 FA Cup after a 1-0 win against Manchester United in the final.
