FIFA Fine Nigeria, Deduct World Cup Qualifiers Point Over Ineligible Player

By Johnny Edward:
World football governing body  FIFA have fined the Nigeria Football Federation 6,000 Swiss Francs (approximately N2,175,660.00) for fielding an ineligible player in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying match between Algeria and Nigeria on 10 November, 2017, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Nigeria fielded Shehu Abdullahi for the game and according to FIFA, the three-time African champions violated article 8 of the Regulations of the 2018 World Cup Russia and article 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code for featuring the Anorthosis Famagusta defender, who was ineligible for the encounter on 10 November 2017.
According to a statement on the official website of FIFA, Shehu failed to serve the automatic one-match suspension imposed on him as a result of receiving a caution in two separate matches of the same competition.
Nigeria will forfeit the point gained from the encounter with three points and three goals awarded in favour of Algeria.
However, this sanction bears no impact on the final result of the preliminary competition for the FIFA World Cup since Nigeria had already qualified (and Algeria eliminated) before the match was played.
With the deducted point, the Super Eagles finished the Russia 2018 qualifying campaign with 13 points instead of 14 and can no longer be considered unbeaten.

They should deduct the fine from the Coach’s salary, all these coaches will do anything for tips from Players

  • See how these incompetent NFF would have cost us a World cup place, if the match against Algeria was an important game regarding the qualification.

  • Imagine this ignorance from the NFF ?

    • Actually it happens everywhere Madrid was kick out of copa de Rey two years ago for fielding an ineligible player we should be thanking our luck it didn’t cost us.

      • No, it doesnt happen every where, you only cited Madrid example, has it ever happned to any European national team, Brazil, Argentina and others, that was serious error and FIFA sent a mail before the match, but NFF did not boarder to read and act on the mail.

  • Fifa problem, but our officials are to blame

  • No longer unbeaten?thanks to God dis didn’t happen against Zambia. We for dey watch our mistake via TV

  • Thank God oooo this is what is called ORI YOMI in yoruba language. Abeg FIFA should stop all this post match investigation they should have remind the team on this immediately they saw this anomaly in the selection. This is also an act of ignorance to our NFF

    • FIFA sent a mail before the match but NFF did not read it.

  • Those incompetent Technical Committee of NFF should be blamed for this avoidable mistake

  • The fact is, if it had been against Zambia, same FIFA would have overlooked it, FIFA is a corrupt organisation.

So na so dis yeye NFF people for bungle our chances if we were tied with Zambia on points? Which kain tin be this? They can’t even keep simple statistics even with the technical committee in place? That Sheu sef… didnt he know he was on 2 yellows before the Algerian game? See how they destroyed our unbeaten record. So so so annoying!

    • I tire o. Those players don’t even know the rules. He should have cautioned the coach at least. He wanted to play against Argentina, that is why.

  • I beg let’s movon. Who God don bless no human being fit curse am.

  • Afolabi Adekunle 4 years ago

    This is unacceptable from NFF.

  • What was the duties of the so call technical committee and the media offical attached to the team? Just a wast of tax payer’s money. They could not keep a record of an events.

  • Hooo, this is a disgrace for our football for our country. I don’t believe!! heee god, this can cost us the qualification if this happen against zambia! Hoo i just say.. Oufffff…how other countries laughing for this no sens lake of brain for some of our NFF team…

Can u imagin d nonesence. So if not that we didn’t lost any match this is how we could have kissed Russia goodbye

  • So FIFA no know since?them no submit team list?who b d match commissioner self?

  • See yawa for don gas o. Which kind yeye mess(gas) be this. There is sabotage I suspect. How did FIFA even know when Algeria did not complain because they didn’t notice too. So someone in the he NFF must have told the FIFA people. I know a wicked man when I read the action of such a man. Sabotage! Sabotage!! Sabotage!!! No mistake about it. Those who have been going to the ministry of sports to collect money for WC hotels, transport, Jersey, and other things in millions when all along FIFA provide all the money and needed things are not happy with Amaju Pinnick. It will not work. Their plans have failed woefully. A thorough investigation should be carried out to fish out the people and capital punishment or long term imprisonment given as this is treason- crime against the people of Nigeria.

This is embarrassing. One of the following ought to know this error beforehand (1) the player involved: (2) NFF (3) technical committee (4) the coach. This matter must be investigated before they embarrass us next year in Russia. I see it repeating itself again in Russia. Corruption must have caused this in the camp. How is it that non of the above listed suspects didn’t stepped down the player before the match? This is negligence and must not go unpunished! NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE.

  • So FIFA dem seif de collect useless bribe

  • So this is the way that they finally quashed our unbeating record;just because our leaders had failed to keep down records and not because the players do not accord our footballing legends the respect they deserve knowing fully well that they had fought had during many qualifying campaign to gather those records. That is the reasoning they all played their heart out to be able to maintain this record. What a failure of our leadership system.Pray such disaster does not occur again.Amen.

nff useless federation u want to jeopardize everyone’s effort

  • femi Ajimuda 4 years ago

This only shows how ‘good’ the NFF is. I believe the Sports Ministry should institute a disciplinary action against the NFF Officers for this negligence (if NFF’s internal body has not done anything in this line before now)

Its a costly mistake that could have portend disaster for Nigeria had the game been crucial for qualification.

    Thank you.
