As the July 17 new FIFA deadline expires today for Nigeria to restore Alhaji Aminu Maigari and his executive committee members of the Nigeria Football Federation as managers of football in the land, .positive signs emerged on Wednesday that Nigeria will beat the deadline.
Complete Sports scooped from a competent source late Wednesday night that wife of former Nigeria Premier League chairman,Victor Baribote has hearkened to the appeal by the Sports Minister, Dr Tammy Danagogo to withdraw the suit she filed in a Jos High Court a forthnight ago.
The Jos court, acting on Mrs Baribote’s argument granted an interlocutory injunction restraining Maigari and his board members from the running of the NFF.
This action was frowned at by FIFA who subsequently suspended Nigeria from all international football and gave a July 15 deadline for ‘normalcy’ to be returned with a threat of an outright ban attached.
The deadline was extended by two days following the representation made by the federal government to Brazil to see top FIFA officials to explain the action was neither carried out by the government not instigated by it.
‘Mrs Baribote has agreed to withdraw her case from court after getting assurances from the Honourable Sports Minister that a thorough probe of the NFF will not only be carried out but that those found guilty to have crruptily enriched themselves or misappropriated funds will be made to face the full wrath of the law,”revealed the source.
Asked how the withdrawal will be done with the news that judiciary workers are still on an industrial action, our source revealed that only the junior staff are on strike.
‘The senior staff in the country’s judiciary are not on striker neither are the judges so I believe the process and the actual withdrawal will be effected on Thursday, just in time to beat the FIFA deadline,’he explained.
