FIFA President Gianni Infantino has revealed that the body has plans to review and simplify the monthly FIFA Ranking which has been hotly contested as not reflecting the true strength of footballing countries, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Speaking at the Media Centre here in Moscow on Friday morning, Infantino conceded that the rankings could be better and promised that a more competitive system will soon be introduced.
He said: “We are not unaware of the fact that the rankings have not reflected the true position of participating nations and I can assure you that it will be changed for the future. There is the complex issue of countries from different continents who do not get to play each other. Then we must also change the weightings of friendly games as well as look at the differences between Confederations to have a fairly accurate representation.”
The rankings were introduced in December 1992, and eight teams (Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain) have held the top position, of which Brazil have spent longest ranked first.
The FIFA boss also denied that the organisation is full of corrupt people as evidenced by the corruption scandals that have riddled the body.
He added: “I think we should not get things wrong. FIFA is itself a victim of corruption and the courts in the United States have agreed with us on this. The culprits misused their positions in FIFA to perpetrate this evil. This does not mean FIFA itself is corrupt but we are going to deal with all of these going forward.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
