FIFA President, Infantino: Nigeria Risk Ban Over NFF Crisis

By Adeboye Amosu:

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has warned that Nigeria stands the risk of being banned from international football competitions if the current leadership crisis bedevilling the country’s Football Federation persists, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

Amaju Pinnick has been the NFF President since 2014 but a Supreme Court ruling two weeks ago appeared to give Giwa the mandate, and he has since presumably assumed office.

The four year-old case was expected to be resolved at the Federal High Court in Jos, Plateau State on Tuesday but it was adjourned to 25 September.

Pinnick approached the court for the relief after the Supreme Court judgment which ordered him to comply with the lower court’s order that compelled him to vacate the office for Giwa.

Giwa is not recognised by FIFA as he is serving a ban. He also lost the case with Pinnick at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which is the highest adjudicator in sporting matters.

Giwa has however continue to parade himself as the NFF president following the adjournment, a move which could force FIFA to wield the big stick on Nigeria.

“The situation is very clear, there can be no interference in the running of the association… That’s the end of it. If any external body thinks they can change this, then of course Nigeria could be banned,” Infantino stated during his interaction with the media in Moscow on Friday.

Should FIFA placed a ban on Nigeria, the Super Eagles will not participate in the African Cup of Nations qualifier, while the other national teams will also be affected.

Two-time African champions, Enyimba who will also keep a date with Ivory Coast’s Williamsville in CAF Confederation Cup will also be disqualified from the competition.

Fifa please release the hammer so this country will understand how their corruption is making a mockery of them in the international globe. Ghana is also suffering from a dissolved board after an expose from Anas. Football in africa is like a dance of shame where money speaks over talent and efficiency. That is why Africa will hardly win the world cup even though we know fifa officials are also another stumbling block

    I don’t just understand Nigeria.

  • Greenturf 3 years ago

Fifa rules are crystal clear and every member nations has to abide to this rules otherwise you choose to discontinue as a member of this global association.
What really baffles me is how everyone that matters have kept mute and reluctant about this issue and paving way for this unpatriotic Giwa and his cohorts to drag our nation to the mud.
However,I can’t understand the problem of this unrelenting and uncivil man who has displayed total disrespect at his compatriot Pinnick and not bothered what disaster his actions would bring to our football.
Meanwhile,we expect the house of assembly to come in and bring a lasting solution to this problem.
Laws that will make football issues independent should be implemented to stop future occurrence.
This Giwa issue should be laid to rest once and for all.
I expect people that have voice in sports, politics and laws to weld in and stop Giwa enough is enough!
Mr President don’t be redundant this is bizarre I can’t believe this things are happening in this 21st century not a big country like Nigeria!

  • We should take a 2 year break from international football to put our house in order. Winks, remember who said this.

    • Sala H. D 3 years ago

Yes,certainly. It looks like the players need orientation. Attitudinal change is quite important also.our nation is our pride nd the people therein. Naija forever!

Please Ban Nigeria, they don’t listen, especially this Giwa, what they doing in the glass house don’t make any single sense, FIFA Ban Nigeria.

    • Greenturf 3 years ago

You kidding me fifa should ban Nigeria because of one selfish man Giwa?do you think Giwa is bothered.I think that’s what he wants he is an enemy who is seeking vengeance and wants fifa to ban us to avenge his lose as Nff president.
We shouldn’t fall for this because end of the day it’s we genuine football lovers and football in general will suffer and a huge set back awaits us and progression to our football. It is easy to say ban us but if you must be honest to yourself you wouldn’t want that to happen.

the present administration have enough challenges in area of security and unemployment. if FIFA bans Nigeria and Nigeria is expelled from international competitions it will affect this administration. the president should remove the current minister of sports who is fueling the crisis rather than take step to resolve the issue. He is incompetent.

  • Clem de Moon 3 years ago

Nigeria Will be banned from all football related issues because of one selfish man called Dalung.
Dalung is hell bent on making his friend Giwa NFF President to be able to have access to NFF purse.
Thieves always entered through the back door, the election is few months away, but because they are thieves and corrupt the want to get through the back door.

  • kunle 3 years ago

I tried to understand Nigerians but I couldn’t. All former footballers and stakeholders quite for the past two weeks now. giwa and his brother dalung are worrying the whole Nigeria. Giwa has taken over the office. To work with who or Nigeria teams will compete in another planet? This is absolute foolishness. Does nff belongs to one family or one tribe for God sake. If FIFA ban Nigeria buari would loose election if he context 2019. Long life Nigeria!!!!!!

BUT, WHY IS IT THAT WE “NEVER” LEARN FROM HISTORY ? Why is Mr Giwa deliberately provoking Fifa’s axe as a result of a dispute that could be easily resolved ? Why can’t the Minister of sports, Mr Solomon Dalung apply wisdom in this case that is sure to incur Fifa’s wrath and bring doooooooooooooooooom to Nigerian football ?

Why do these enemies of football want to take away the MAJOR SOURCE OF JOY of sports lovers in Nigeria ? Football is the biggest opium that we take to keep us happy and united in this country, now for goodness sake, why can’t Mr Dalung, Mr Giwa and the so-called Courts understand that Fifa, the governing body has stated in clear terms that there should be no interferrance in the affairs of all National Associations. Is this not clear enough ??????

PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE, Mr Dalung and Mr Giwa, for the sake of all football loving Nigerians, withdraw your court actions NOW before it is too late ! If Fifa decends On Nigeria because of your activities, the ramifications will be too much for us to bear – we are all going to suffer because Soccer is our number one sport. Moreover we need time to prepare the Super Eagles for the next World Cup in 2022 and a ban on Nigeria will definitely affect that plan.

My simple advice to Mr Dalung and Mr Giwa is tbis : Whether you think Mr Amaju Pinnick got to that position by crooked and illegal means or not, his term is almost coming to an end, please let him finish his term peacefully and we can then organise a fresh election and create a level playing field for all to participate including you, Mr Giwa.

Furthermore, Fifa recognises Mr Pinnick as the NFF boss and fighting against him is like fighting against Fifa and the later will not take kindly to this; And Mr Pinnick is not doing badly at the moment.

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee, Mr Giwa, despite your grievances, for the sake of our dear country, Nigeria, and for the sake of all football loving Nigerians, stop pursuing your Court action and to let peace reign because the alternative will be a catastrophy !!!

Mr Giwa, I am on my knees, PLEASEEEEEEE…

  • ankumah 3 years ago

O no its not Giwa BT the Judge. Is he claiming he doesn’t known he has no power to contest FIFA rules or laws? He wants to be obeyed and he will not obey? There his been such trials by Late H O S Gen Sani Abacha. Poor players will loose a lot

  • O'Billy Pam'Pam 3 years ago

Not quite long,Dalung said that money in football is more than that in Oil.He then narrated the experience he had with some past NFA officials, where they failed to pay him,or should I say, line his pocket after been part of a government entourage to a tournament. He’s been in the sports ministry enough to confirm what he saw then. He’s now staging a coup with his town’s man to take over and feed themselves fat, while our football suffer.Giwa has nothing to offer our football,if he loves football,he will not be doing what he’s doing now, because he know’s the consequences. But who will stop them,in a contry of hypocrites, rather they will now start aligning with him,to see if they will get a piece of the cake. Some are talking of Government intervention .The same government that arms one ethnic group to massacre another. They are allowed to roam around the country and kill anybody and nothing happens to them.Nigeria,Cry,the beloved country;things have fallen apart and the centre cannot hold.

We have been banned in the past before, but never learnt anything from it; prophetically, we shall be proscribed again and again as far as we remain in with this our overambitious selfishness in the terrain of power. These persons involved thing that this is Nigeria’s politics as usual. The problem is that FIFA bans us, they will still be in the non functional office feeding fat.

  • Sunnyb 3 years ago

Buhari, the most corrupt AG Malami, Dalung and Hippo Giwa, are hell bent in destroying Nigeria soccer.fifa should pls not ban us, banning us is what these useless smelly idiots wants anyway. But FIFA should never recognize Giwa as our NFF president.

  • My people i think the best solution for this issue is that mr Buhari have to sack dulang as sports minister, then that charge and bell idiot lawyer will go jail for the bribe he took from homo giwa, thunder fire them

  • Donbenie 3 years ago

The stubborn fly ends up being buried with the corpse,Giwa is digging enough of his grave to never ever be recognized as NFF president by FIFA,at the rate he is going FIFA will soon ban his fat ass for life..

  • If we get banned, the sport minister should lose his job period. Also, why does the Nigeria judicial system not understand bye laws ? Why did the ruling not refer them to FIFA court. I m sorry to say nothing works any more. Go get your pvc. Buhari and he’s retards seating in govt parastatals ( customs, police,Ncc etc..) must all go. For real enough is a enough we cannot waste away a generation.

  • Desmond 3 years ago

Nigeria is a failed state and no remedy unless this present fulani Administration goes. I wonder why Nigerians would vote a foreigner into power all in the name of change. FIFA should ban Nigeria, Afterall what are we known for in the world?

  • Henry the Great! 3 years ago

The current talibans in Nigerian politics will soon disappear like isis come 2019 no mixing word no much talk..

  • so nobody likes giwa in this country thank God we all hate him
