Hosts France got off to a winning start at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a 4-1 victory over Ghana in Group A.
Laurent Emelyne (brace), Helene FercocQ and Sandy Baltimore were on target for Les Bleuttes in the encounter.
Ghana’s only goal was scored by Owusu Ansah.
Netherlands beat New Zealand 2-1 in another Group A encounter, their first-ever win in the history of the U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Fenna Kalma scored the opening goal for the Dutch in the 28th minute, while Hannah Blake got their equaliser right before half-time.
Van Deursen scored the winning goal for the Dutch 12 minutes from time.
Mexico edged out Brazil 3-2 in the competition’s opening game.
Katty Martinez and Jacqueline Ovalle (brace) scored both goals for Mexico, while Kerolin Nicoli got Brazil’s two goals in the Group B fixture.
That lead lasted just two minutes, however, as the dangerous Kerolin Nicoli scored the first of two first-half goals to make it 1-1.
Alessio Russo scored twice as England beat reigning champions 3-1 in another Group B game at the Stade du Clos Gastel.
Georgia Stanway got the Lioness other goal, while Ja Un-Yong netted Korea’s only goal of the game.
