FirstBank Basketball Club of Lagos have emerged winners of the 2017 Nigerian Zenith Women's Basketball League having defeated First Deepwater 84-53 in the final played on Saturday at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Despite First Deepwater's experience in the annual women league, the team coached by Shola Shomala played below expectations, therefore giving the Elephant Girls the chance to dominate and rule the league again.
FirstBank started the game with an impressive approach, knowing full well that First Deepwater was not a team they could take for granted and that actually helped them to win the game with 84-53 points to smile home with the giant trophy.
In the third place game played earlier in the day, IGP Queens defeated Dolphins 65-63 at the same venue to finish with the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Zenith Bank has pledged its continued support for women's basketball in the country as the financial institution charged the players to put in more efforts and also work harder.
Meanwhile, both First Bank and Fist Deepwater will represent the country at the FIBA Africa Club Championship later in the year.
