FirstBank coach Peter Ahmedu has attributed his team's victory at the just concluded 2017 Zenith Women's Basketball League to hard work and focus, saying he has also learnt a new lesson in the league, Completesportnigeria.com reports.
FirstBank defeated First Deepwater 84-53 points in the final played on Saturday at the indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Ahmedu also said the victory in the Zenith League will propel his players to do better in this year's FIBA Africa Club Championship for Women.
"I feel great winning this trophy and I want to specially thank God who made it possible for us because all the teams that took part in the tournament are equally good but we showed more determination to win and God gave it to us," Ahmedu told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"I can say that our victory this year was due to hard work and focus because right from the start of the season, we told ourselves that we needed to work really hard to get the title and the players really lived up to the plan.
"Now our focus is on the continental tournament because this league has opened our eyes to certain things and we have also learnt from it."
Speaking on the possibility of recruiting players for the continental championship, Ahmedu said the management of the Elephant Girls will have to decide that at their meeting which will be held before the commencement of the FIBA tournament.
Meanwhile, Ahmedu has commenced First Deepwater Basketball Club despite beating them in the final.
"Beating First Deepwater does not mean they are not a good side, they have won the tournament back-to-back twice and currently, the team is going through restructuring and that could be the reason why they could not get the title this time around.
