Newly crowned African champions, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, are expected to submit to FIFA a 35-man provisional squad for the U20 World Cup in New Zealand not later than April 1, officials disclosed.
According to the Flying Eagles secretary Ibrahim Aliyu Auwal, who on Monday attended a preparatory FIFA workshop in Dakar, Senegal, a deadline of April 1 has been set for all teams including the four African representatives to list a provisional squad for the U20 World Cup, which will kick off on May 30.
It is from this provisional list that teams will select their final 21-man squad for the World Cup.
It is expected that a core of the squad who won Nigeria a seventh African Youth Championship in Senegal on Sunday will make this provisional squad.
Most likely additions would include Isaac Success, Uche Agbo (Granada CF, Spain), Wilfred Ndidi (Genk, Belgium), Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England), Moses Simon (Gent, Belgium), Musa Yahaya (Tottenham Hotspur, England), Chidiebere Nwakali (Malaga, Spain) and Kingsley Madu (Trencin, Slovakia).
