Uruguay legend and former Manchester United star Diego Forlan has claimed Paul Scholes was the best player he ever played with, above a host of superstars.
The striker played with Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez during the prime of his career, but neither of those come close to the former United and England midfielder in Forlan’s eyes.
When asked who his finest career teammate was, Forlan told Fox Sports : “Paul Scholes
“The ginger fella was 30 metres from goal, he grabbed [the ball] and hit it at goal like it was nothing, leaving everyone surprised.”
Forlan spent two-and-a-half seasons at Manchester United after joining from Independiente in 2002.
He scored just 17 goals in 98 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side before signing for Villarreal in 2004.
The striker enjoyed the finest spell of his career during his time in La Liga, winning the European Golden Shoe with Villarreal in 2005 and again with Atletico Madrid in 2009.
He was named the best player at the 2010 World Cup as Uruguay reached the semi-finals.
Forlan, 36, now plays for Penarol in Uruguay’s Primera Division.
