Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has warned The Reds’manager Jurgen Klopp and their teeming fans not to overrate the arrival of Brazilian goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, as the former AS Roma shotstopper might need up to a full season to understand the rudiments of the English Premier League.
Alisson, a £67m signing from Roma is now being touted as a perfect buy who will plug the problematic goalkeeping hole of Liverpool since Loris Karius confirmed his unreliability with two horrendous howlers in this seasson’s UEFA Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
As the celebration of Alisson’s arrival by Liverpool faithful continues, Fowler in column article in Daily Mirror, urges caution in order that the talented goalie may thrive naturally at Anfield.
“Everyone knows Liverpool’s weakness has been the goalkeeping position. That came back to haunt them with the mistakes of Loris Karius in the Champions League final,” the former Liverpool striker writes.
“Alisson is undoubtedly a world class player, but the Premier League is tough. There will be times when he will makes mistakes.
“David De Gea took time to settle at Manchester United before becoming recognised as a great goalkeeper.
“Alisson’s signing was urgently needed. Liverpool have stood by Karius over the summer and pre- season, but the new campaign was always going to be brutal for the German.”
