The Super Eagles of Nigeria played out a goalless draw against the Uganda Cranes in Tuesday’s international friendly match at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba Delta State, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The draw in the Asaba Friendly was the second in eight games for the three-time African champions against the Uganda Cranes.
It was also the Super Eagles’ second draw in five games since losing 2-1 to Argentina at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
For the two nations, the international friendly match served as preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon as both booked their spots with good result in their respective matchday-5 qualifying games over the weekend even with a game in hand apiece.
The Ugandans had the game’s first real chance, but Derrick Nsimambi, after beating John Ogu from a long ball, went for the spectacular overhead kick, playing the ball wide of the goal area.
The Super Eagles reacted and came close when Victor Osimhen was put through on goal by Mikel Agu, but the Sporting Charleroi striker was undecided on the ball and lost possession to the Ugandan defence.
The Super Eagles had two quick chances to score through an Oghenekaro Etebo shot and a header from Osimhen; but both opportunities were squandered.
At the start of the second half, Gernot Rohr introduced Isaac Success and Samuel Kalu for Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze.
Success had the first chance of the second half when his header off a Kalu free-kick went wide.
Kalu also watched his free kick miss target narrowly in the 71st minute. The Eagles pressed for a goal but the Ugandans were resolute in defending.
Mikel Agu’s low shot was cleared by the back line after a goalmouth scramble.
Rohr also brought on Henry Onyekuru and Kelechi Iheanacho for Ahmed Musa and John Ogu but both players’ showing failed to change the scoreline.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
