Belgian side, Genk are keen on holding on to Nigeria midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi beyond the winter transfer window, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The versatile player who celebrated his 20th birthday on Friday is set to link up with English Premier League champions, Leicester City when the transfer window reopens in January.
The former Nigeria youth international's switch appeared to have been confirmed this week, with reports from Belgium suggesting that an announcement could be made as early as new year's day with a fee and personal terms already agreed and his medicals completed.
However, Genk officials are trying to convince Ndidi to remain in Belgium until the summer.
"We were successful in keeping our players last summer, but I know it will be hard this winter," Genk's sporting director, Dimitri de Conde told Belgium newspaper L'Avenir.
"But we'll do everything to keep them. I have proposed offers to the players, I treat them with respect and it works.
" It's possible (they will leave in January), but I'm going to do everything so that does not
"Basically, we are looking to replace them only next season.
" And yes with Ndidi, we are discussing with Leicester, but they are not the only club interested."
