Gibson Eager To Make Burnley Return

Ben Gibson says he is working hard on returning to full fitness and getting back in Burnley’s first-team plans. The former England Under-21 international made the switch to Turf Moor from Middlesbrough in the summer for a joint club-record fee of £15 million but he has struggled to make a real impact due to injury.

The 25-year-old defender underwent two operations to clear up a hernia problem and is yet to make his Premier League bow for the Clarets, with just two European outings to his name.

With the campaign taking a third break for another set of international fixtures, the centre-back is doing everything he can to recover and start playing some football for Burnley once again. “I’m getting there,” Gibson told the club’s official website.

“Obviously, it’s been a really frustrating start, not the start you’d ever want, coming to a new football club. You want to come, make your mark and show everyone; show the players, the fans, the manager and the coaching staff what I can do.

“I haven’t really been able to do that, so I’m really looking forward to getting back out there and fighting for my place and helping the club achieve what we want to achieve.”
