Gigot To Battle For Catalans Future

Catalans Dragons star Tony Gigot has suggested he is ready to battle for his future after helping the club to Challenge Cup glory. Gigot put in a star performance and claimed the Lance Todd Trophy following the 20-14 win over Warrington on Saturday, but his place in the side for next season is in doubt.

The 27-year-old is still under contract for 2019 but may have to switch to another position after the club made it clear that new signing Sam Tomkins has been promised the number one shirt.

“The club has decided to sign another full-back so we will see next year what happens but I have no problem with it,” he said. “At the moment I just want to enjoy the Challenge Cup win.”

Meanwhile, Gigot was also delighted to repay the club for sticking by him after he was hit with a doping ban and thanked chairman Bernard Guasch and coach Steve McNamara in particular.

“Bernard and Steve never stopped calling me,” Gigot said of the dark times he spent during the winter. They always believed there would some better times for me and it’s a beautiful feeling now to give them this trophy.

“I needed to live that moment in my life to be a better guy. I’ve got a big chance to do what I love – play rugby league – and now when I play it’s like playing my last game every weekend.”
