Brume, who has a personal and season’s best of 6.68m achieved last month in Calabar at the trial for these Games only last week failed to fulfil expectations at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Oregon,USA where she jumped 5.18m to crash out in the qualifying round.

Also on Wednesday quartermile barrier runner,Christian Amaechi Cuevas Morton scaled the hurdles into the final. She ran 49.62 seconds to place third in his heat but qualified as one of the two fastest losers.

Interestingly his time was the fifth fastest among the eight finalists for Thursday’s final.

It was however a tale of sorrow for the halp lap duo of Obinna Metu and Adeseye Ogunlewe as they both failed to advance beyond the first round in the men’s 200m.

Later tonight, golden girl Blessing Okagbare will begin her quest for a sprints double when she takes to the track at 9:15pm for the opening round of the women’s 200m.
