Glo Backs Super Eagles To Fly Again After Luxembourg Win

Telecommunications giant and a major sponsor of the Nigeria's national teams, Globacom, has said that the Super Eagles’ win over Luxembourg on Tuesday was a  good stimulant that will energise the team as they prepare for the qualifying matches of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Super Eagles defeated the Red Lions 3-1 on their home turf, the Stade Josy Barthel, in Luxembourg City.

Globacom in a statement released in Lagos tasked the Super Eagles to build on their current form after winning their second straight game in international friendlies played in Europe in less than one week.

Both international friendlies are tune-ups aimed at preparing the three-time African champions for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers which will begin in October.

The statement from Globacom commended the team for reviving the  faith of Nigerians in the Super Eagles. “Now, we have further assurance that the Super Eagles, our precious national team, can fly again…,” the statement said.

According to Globacom, the team showed resourcefulness, taking their chances and making use of the opportunity of the friendly to test their skills and technical capacity. The firm also congratulated the interim handler of the team, Salisu Yusuf, for a job well done, and encouraged  the team to learn from the friendly match and correct their weakness.

“While it is gratifying that Nigeria won the match, it should not be lost on the team that they have not yet perfected their skills and strategies, especially as they played against Luxembourg which came into the game as 145th on the latest FIFA ranking. We need to see the match as training opportunity to see what still needs to be done to prepare the team to meet the traditional power houses of football in Africa during the World Cup qualifiers. Particularly, the team needs to resolve the defensive lapses that gave Luxembourg the advantage to score its only goal in the game,” Globacom counselled.

Brown Ideye scored the opener on his return, while Kelechi Iheanacho and Odion Ighalo go the other goals..
