Gold Coast 2018: Nigeria Drops In Medal Table, Second In African Teams After SA

Team Nigeria ended day 10 of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in the ninth position in the medal table on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

It was a fruitful day for Team Nigeria as they concluded events on Saturday with one gold, three silver and one bronze medals but the team dropped from the eighth position they held on Friday.

The Nigerian team now have nine gold, eight silver and six bronze medals, making them the second highest-ranking African team in the table.

Aminat Adeniyi picked up Saturday’s gold medal in women’s wrestling; the three silver medals were won by Melvin Bibo in men’s wrestling, Faith Obazuaye in women’s TT6-10 singles (table tennis), women’s 4X400 metres relay, while women’s 4X100 metres relay won bronze.

South Africa leads the African countries. The Rainbow Nation is in the fifth position overall after amassing 13 gold, 11 silver, 13 bronze; Kenya is 13th with four gold, seven silver, six bronze. In 15th spot is Botswana with won three gold, one silver, one bronze and Uganda in 16th on three gold and two bronze.

Namibia is in joint-25th on one gold while Cameroon is 32nd on one silver, two bronze. Mauritius is in joint-34th with one silver while Ghana and Seychelles are in joint-39th position with one bronze each.

Host Australia continues to lead the standings with 75 gold, 55 silver and 57 bronze medals.

England is in second with 42 gold, 40 silver and 41 bronze; India in third with 25 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze and Canada fourth with 15 gold, 39 silver and 27 bronze.
