Gomes Prepared For Watford Exit

Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes says this will likely be his last season at Watford as he weighs up retiring at the end of the campaign.

The Brazilian shot stopper has lost his place in the starting line-up to summer signing Watford this term but remains a fan favourite at Vicarage Road having played an important role in their return to the Premier League.

The 37-year-old joined the Hornets in 2014 and in his first season with the club help them achieve promotion to the top-flight, picking up Watford’s Player of the Year award the following season.

The former Tottenham man has now admitted that he is very likely to walk away from Watford at the end of the season, believing the time has come for him to hang up his gloves.

When asked about his future plans, Gomes told Sky Sports: “This will probably be my last season.”

While he is looking into life after football, Gomes says his main focus remains trying to put Foster under pressure for his spot in the team.

“I will try to push hard but Ben is doing so well that it is very difficult to get in over him,” he added. “But I am glad as well because I lost my place to a good goalkeeper.”
