Watford manager Javi Gracia says Nigeria striker Isaac Success can form a formidable partnership with captain Troy Deeney in attack for the Hornets.
Deeney is expected to make a return to action against Southampton in the English Premier League later today (Saturday) after recovering from a hamstring complaint that ruled him out of Watford’s last three games.
During Deeney’s absence, Success led the line well, scoring against Huddersfield Town and offered a physical presence in attack for Watford and Gracia stresses that his side can be flexible with his skipper playing alongside the Nigeria forward.
“I think we can play different ways, with players like Troy, Stefano [Okaka], Andre [Gray] and Isaac. They are all very physical,” Gracia told the Watford Observer.
“We can also play with Gerard Deulofeu as a second striker and change the style of play. All of them are good players and we try and make the right choice for all the games.”
Deeney has enjoyed the more productive spells of his career when playing alongside a strike partner but has not been paired with Success up front under Gracia.
“They can play together and they have different characteristics. They can play as we have done with Troy and Andre or last season with Troy and Stefano.
“We have used them in different situations and I am happy with the results. It does not depend only on the characteristics and all of them can play together.”
