Super Eagles and Watford striker Odion Ighalo has been honoured by Granada in recognition of his role in helping his former club rise from the third tier of Spanish football to La Liga.
The striker, who scored Watford’s winner against Swansea over the weekend, was a mainstay of the Granada side during their ascent through the divisions. And Ighalo, alongside fellow players Nyom, Roberto Fernandez and Diego Mainz, has been immortalised in a ‘Promotion Heroes’ gate at the club’s Nuevo Los Carmenes stadium.
Whilst on loan from Udinese, Ighalo and Nyom became key members of the Granada squad which secured back-to-back promotions to the Spanish top flight following the Pozzo family’s investment in the club in 2009.
In Granada’s first season back in La Liga, Ighalo and Nyom remained pivotal figures and helped the club avoid relegation following a 17th place finish.
Both players remained at the club, again on loan, for the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 campaigns as El Grana clinched successive 15th place finishes.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
