George Groves feels he is in peak condition to face Callum Smith on Friday and is confident he will add another win to his record.
‘Saint George’ will put his WBA (Super) super-middleweight title on the line against fellow British fighter Smith, while the duo will also battle for the WBC ‘Diamond’ and Ring Magazine belts, as well as the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
There is clearly a lot at stake in the unlikely setting of the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Groves has made it clear he has enjoyed getting his work done and is now ready for action.
“We had a great camp in the end,” he told reporters at the pre-fight press conference. “It took a long time to get back to full fitness but everything has gone as good as it possibly could.
“Arriving here, it’s not as bad as you’re told back home. After such a long training camp, such a long time, I can’t wait to fight. I can’t wait to collect some new belts and the Ali Trophy.”
The Londoner has been in with some tough fighters during his career and is determined to add the World Boxing Super Series crown to his CV.
“I’ve been in some really big fights as a professional, numerous world title fights,” he added. “Recently became the WBA champion, recently became ranked number one in the division and what’s up for grabs this time round for me is the Ring Magazine belt and obviously the Ali trophy as well.
“It’s going to become a very prestigious tournament not only to win, but to be associated with. I’ll make sure that I win it and win it well.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
