“It’s important to keep the winning run. We have had to manage games as well as personnel.  We decided to rest some players today so as to give others play time because it’s a long season.

Guardiola  further commended the contributions of the players who were on duty against Mainz despite the quality of substitutes on the bench who could be called up in the course of the game.

“And as you can see, the quality in the team despite having good players on the bench (Jerome Boateng, Arturo Vidal and Mario Gotze all came from the bench in the second half).

“We needed to refresh up things a bit and we’re delighted to have no injury setback ahead of another difficult clash in the Champions League.  We go back to Munich after this win, rest  tomorrow (Sunday) and report back to training in preparation for Dynamo. This is the nature of our job (smiles),” Guardiola told
