Guardiola Calls Boro Tie Cup Final, Expects Kompany Return

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City's FA Cup tie away to Middlesbrough on Saturday is like a final game for his side.

City will hope to bounce back from their 0-0 home draw against Stoke City on Wednesday when they travel to the Riverside to face Boro.

City are currently 10 points adrift of Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title.

"This game is a final. We are not playing for one or three points. We have to win," Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

"Boro is a very well organised defensive team, it is very difficult to score. Valdes is amazing.

"We are thinking about tomorrow and trying to arrive in the semi-finals. The people tell me it’s beautiful to play a semi at Wembley.

"I played at the old Wembley and as a manager I won the Champions League at the new one. Playing a semi there would be nice."

Guardiola revealed that club captain Vincent Company could make a return to the City squad for the Cup game after recovering from injury.

"Kompany is already back. He trained three days, four days with us. He has already come back in the training sessions with the team," the Spaniard added.

"I said many times about all the players. Joe Hart is playing for Manchester City and we will decide at the end of the season."
