Guardiola Disappointed With Everton Draw, Koeman Pleased

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his disappoitment that his team could only settle for a 1-1 draw at the Etihad against Everton in the English Premier League on Monday night.

A late goal from subtitute Raheem Sterling with eight minutes left rescued a point for City against Everton who had taken the lead through former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The goal was Rooney’s 200th EPL goal which made him the second player to reach the figure after Alan Shearer (260).

Both teams each had a player sent off as Kyle Walker was sent off for City in the first half, while Morgan Schneiderlin was given his matching orders for Everton late in the game.

Reacting to the draw, Guardiola however praised his players for their effort.

“We are here for the results, but we didn’t win… It’s just the second game and we’ll improve,” he said during his post-match press conference.

“It’s similar to a lot of games last season, it’s sad because we wanted to start well at home.

“We tried to win the game even when it was 10 against 11. Nobody can say we didn’t try.”

Everton manager Ronald Koeman however feels their 1-1 draw against Manchester City was a point gained by his team.

But despite the disappointment of conceding late, Koeman hailed his team’s resilience.

“If you go to City, it’s always tough. I thought our game plan was perfect. I thought we did one wrong thing in the second half,” Koeman said in his post-match reaction.

“It’s a good point. I’m happy. We worked hard for that point.”

Commenting on new signing Sandro who missed the game against City due to injury, Koeman said: “I hope he’s fit for Thursday. We know the fixtures and we’ll do everything to prepare the team for the next game.”
