Guardiola: We Beat Difficult Mainz With Patience

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has told that his team’s 3-0 win over home side FSV Mainz on Saturday at the Coface Arena was achieved with an utmost patience.

The German champions defeated Leon Balogun’s Mainz 3-0 with Robert Lewandowski grabbing a brace, and Kingsley Coman scoring the third.

The former Spanish international told “The Mainz’s Coface Arena is usually a very difficult ground for us as you can see in the first half when the game was very tight and chances were very few.

“The penalty miss by Thomas Muller made things a bit tight too in that half. We simply had to be patient."

Guardiola admitted that his team changed approach in the second half and the result paid off in the end.

“Great credit to the boys for their maturity and continuous probing. We changed a couple of things in our approach in the second half and made things very difficult for us. But we never lost control of the game which was very important.

“We kept probing and the technical changes we made in the second half  helped us unlock their door.  It would be nice to create more record but today was all about the three points,” the former Barcelona manager concluded.
