Teenage winger Xavier Amaechi’s hopes of breaking into the Arsenal side this season have been hit by a serious foot injury. The 17-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign with Under-18s and Freddie Ljungberg’s Under-23 side and it had been mooted that he could work his way into Gunners’ boss Unai Emery’s first-team plans for the Carabao Cup and Europa League matches.
However, Amaechi, who staked his claim for a call-up by Emery when he scored an impressive goal against Atletico Madrid during the summer tour to Singapore, suffered a foot injury while on international duty with England’s Under-18s during the two-week break earlier this month.
And, while it was initially believed the injury was nothing major, a scan on his foot has now revealed that it is far more serious than believed and the early indications are that Amaechi will not be fit until early 2019.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
