Sam Byram is on his way back to West Ham after suffering what appears to be a serious injury whilst on loan at Nottingham Forest. The former Leeds United man was injured in Forest’s League Cup victory over Premier League side Newcastle at the City Ground last week.
Byram produced a brilliant tackle during the EFL Cup second round clash, but was then helped from the field after it became clear that he was struggling badly following the challenge.
A Hammers insider has revealed that the 24-year-old is now on his way back to London for a medical assessment, but that the signs don’t look good for Byram, who has suffered a dreadful time with injuries over the past couple of years.
We understand it could be a cruciate knee problem, which will of course require surgery, although nothing will be confirmed until the Hammers’ medical staff fully assess the defender.
