Xande Silva, Reece Oxford and Grady Diangana impressed as West Ham’s Under-21s lost 2-0 to Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday. Silva, a Portugal Under-21 international who was snapped up from Vitoria Guimaraes in the summer, almost gave the young Hammers the lead after just three minutes at Memorial Stadium.
But goals from Watford loanee Alex Jakubiak and skipper Tom Lockyer left West Ham pointless in the Group L table and with work to do in their next two EFL Trophy matches.
Under-21 boss Liam Manning felt his side could take positives from their display and picked out a young trio for praise.
He told the club’s website: “I thought Grady [Diangana] was a real threat again throughout and if you’re looking at players who would get in their team, he would do that.
“Xande showed moments too and looked a threat and Reece Oxford made some good blocks and was better. He’s played more football in the last few months than in the last few seasons, so he’s getting better.”
