Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Issa Hayatou has revealed that the new host country for the 2015 African Cup of Nations will be announced in the next two to three days.
In a live interview with French channel France 24, Hayatou explained that the country replacing Morocco as AFCON hosts will be disclosed in the coming days.
The Executive Committee of CAF confirmed that Morocco had been barred from the upcoming tournament following their refusal to host the African showpiece amidst growing concerns over the Ebola virus which has struck West Africa.
CAF further stipulated that the tournament will go ahead on the originally scheduled dates and that a new host would be announced in due course.
“Do not anticipate! Wait for two or three days. You have waited for a month. The series lasted a month. It is left with three or four days, so do not be in a hurry,” Hayatou is quoted as saying on France 24 when asked if the tournament will be co-hosted or have a single host.
Algeria, Angola, Gabon, Nigeria, Egypt, Sierra Leone and even Qatar have been among the countries rumoured to take over from Morocco.
There has also been a rumour of four countries co-hosting the continental tournament, but Hayatou has urged the public to be patient until they come to a conclusion by the end of the week.
