The Nigeria BasketBall Federation, NBBF, has reported the Spanish Embassy to the Federation of International Basketball Association, FIBA, following their failure to issue the country's Women's U-17 Basketball teams entry visas to travel and feature at the 2016 FIBA World U-17 Women's tournament in Zaragoza, Spain, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Secretary General of the NBBF,Patrick Okeke informedCompletesportsnigeria.com that the federation is disappointed with the action of the Spanish Embassy despite the fact that the body followed all the laid down rules and guidelines in applying for the visas.
Okeke further said they are waiting for the basketball ruling body, FIBA to look appropriately into the matter in order to prevent a future occurrence.

"We are disappointed with the action of the Spanish Embassy and we have reported them to FIBA,"Okeke disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com.

"It's really sad that our girls have been prevented from participating in the competition despite the fact that we followed due process in applying for visas for them.
"These are the same girls that participated and came second at the African Championship in Madagascar. We presented all the relevant documents to the embassy and we still can't fathom why they denied us the chance to participate in the competition.

"It's important that we prevent this type of occurrence from happening in future which is why we have reported them to FIBA."

It can be recalled that the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, revealed in its release on Wednesday, that the Spanish Embassy disclosed to the agency, upon investigation, that NBBF's visa application ‎was belated, full of irregularities and was signed by a dead man, hence their denial of entry visas. The NBBF Secretary General, Okeke has since proclaimed that he signed the application, and he is not a dead man.
The Nigerian girls were scheduled to play in Group A of the competition which started on Wednesday alongside Japan, Canada and Latvia.
