Heartland, Ikorodu United Begin NPFL Quest As NNL Kick Off March 17

The 2016/17 Nigeria National Football League (NNL) will kick off on Friday, 17th of March, 2017, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

This was announced after a congress held in Abuja, where several decisions were taken. Warri Wolves and Heartland FC will begin their fight to regain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with away fixtures to Abia Comets and Delta Force in Group B of the NNL respectively.

Another highlight of matchday 1 in the NNL is Crown FC hosting Ikorodu United in Group B.

Insurance FC will start out their campaign at home to Lagos-based side My People FC while Osun United led by Duke Udi will seek their first win away to former NPFL champions Bayelsa United.

Elsewhere on day one, AS Racine start out against newly promoted Papilo FC while Akwa Starlets will battle Unicem Rovers in a derby.

Meanwhile, all matches involving Giwa FC will be pending until the NFF give a position on the club and its owner. Giwa FC were expelled from the NPFL last season for repeatedly flouting League Management Company rules.
