As part of its effort towards promotion of increase food production in the country, Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) has officially unveiled Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, as ambassador of the Great Food, Great Football campaign.
The Executive Secretary, HEDA, Mr. Sulaimon Arigbabu, said that Great Food, Great Football campaign would adopt creative engagement methods that raise interest and awareness on how food and nutrition affect one’s fitness and well-being.
According to Arigbabu, a series of activities are being undertaken such as appearances at the World Cup, a food and football radio programme that is aimed at connecting food security, nutrition and the World Cup.
Arigbabu said: “The programme comes up on Brila FM 88.9 every day for the duration of the Russia 2018 World Cup. This activity is driven through our online engagements through our platform’s social media. “As part of our advocacy for eradication of hunger and poverty, and the creation of inclusive wealth, especially for women and youth. “Through this, we seek to raise public consciousness and build active citizenship around realization of food and nutritional security and the right to food for every person in Nigeria.
“This is a three-year campaign that deploys both online and offline activities to get Nigerians involved in the conversations on policies that shape and affect the food system and the right to food.
“To this end, we aim to engage and empower youth in the advocacy for food using the power of creativity and social media especially where their interest lies such as music, football, elections etc.
“To this end, we are happy to present our campaign ambassador, Sound Sultan, who will be using his public influence as a celebrity, and his awesome public goodwill to drive these following activities towards the realization of our objectives.”
The HEDA boss said that they will also be organising an online competition known as My Farmer, My Hero, designed to raise awareness about and create traction for the real-life experiences of small-scale farmers in Nigeria.
He explained : “Contestants are required to go experience the everyday life of a farmer and recreate same in a 180 seconds video which must capture the challenges, the resilience and fun sides of a typical day in a farmer’s life. They are then required to push their work via social media and generate good online traffic and endorsement for the video.”
He noted that his office conducts strategic policy advocacy, training, research as well as citizens’ awareness and mobilization on core human development issues including agriculture, food security, climate change, human rights, public sector accountability and electoral reform process.
Sound Sultan commended the organization for the opportunity to speak about food and football to Nigerians and the world at large.
He promised to bring on board other celebrities, looking at the aims of the campaign and importance to the people who are their fans in the entertainment industry.
