Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson believes the club are ready to win trophies although he remains haunted by their previous near misses.
The Reds are chasing a first league title since 1990 and they can move back to the top of the standings by beating fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side certainly appear well placed to mount a sustained challenge for overall glory and England international Henderson believes they have what it takes to go the distance.
“I feel we’re ready,” Henderson told the Telegraph. “We definitely have the potential to win trophies. “I have every confidence with the talent that we’ve got and the people in the dressing room that we can go and produce trophies in the very near future and hopefully it’s this season.”
Henderson was part of the Liverpool squad that came agonisingly close to winning the title in 2014 before they were eventually pipped to the post by Manchester City and he admits that near miss remains fresh in his mind.
“That is something I have had to live with,” he added. “But we are years on here, a totally different squad of players and totally different scenario.
“I don’t like to look too far back into the past. All I’m focused on is to keep winning games for this football club, as many as we can, to be successful and to end up winning trophies.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
