Captain Jordan Henderson says he is happy with the decisions Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is making when it comes to team selection. Henderson has been an integral part of the Reds’ first team since arriving from Sunderland in 2011 but he has had to settle largely for a bench role at the start of the new Premier League season.
This is mostly down to the 28-year-old’s World Cup exploits as England reached the semi-finals in Russia and his late return to pre-season has led Klopp to choose other options available to him.
So far, the German tactician has got things right as Liverpool recorded their fifth straight league victory on Saturday – beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley – and summer arrival Naby Keita has slotted in well.
Many players could have become disillusioned after being demoted to the bench, but Henderson understands the bigger picture and is adamant he will play a big part as the season progresses.
“I came back later than everybody else so I can’t expect to come straight back in,” he said ahead of the Champions League visit of Paris St Germain. “The lads have worked hard all pre-season. You can see the benefits already in how fit they are, the rhythm they’ve got from playing games.
“They’ve been fantastic, winning games, so it’s normal for me that I’m not playing. I can accept it. It just means I have to keep working hard, keep improving and take my chance when it comes.
“I totally respect the players around me, how well they are playing, and the manager as well. He always decides and he’s always right.
“I’ve basically tried to use this period to refresh my body, refresh my mind. Last season was long, especially with the World Cup, and this is hopefully going to be another long season with a lot of games so I need to make sure I’m ready.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
