Hennessey Wants Palace To Learn From Mistakes

Wayne Hennessey admits Crystal Palace were “devastated” not to take something from the Bournemouth clash but must learn from errors.

The Eagles goalkeeper had to pick the ball out of the net on two occasions at the Vitality Stadium, the second time after Junior Stanislas had slotted home from the penalty spot with three minutes remaining to secure all three points for the Cherries.

With the scores level and a point apiece looking most likely, the hosts were gifted the spot-kick when Mamadou Sakho swung a forearm into the face of Jefferson Lerma at a free-kick.

Most pundits accepted that the decision was correct, with Palace boss Roy Hodgson stating referee Mike Dean was “quite entitled” to point to the spot.

Hennessey felt it was cruel for his side not to earn a draw and hopes they learn from the experience.

“We are devastated not to come away with a point, I haven’t seen the penalty decision again so I will have a look at the incident and see if it was actually a penalty or not, but we do need to learn from these mistakes,” said the Wales shot-stopper.

“We were creating chances but it was that final ball, cross or shot at a time when we were looking good, and if you had put money on it you would have definitely said we were going to score, but that decision kind of killed us and as I say we need to learn from that.”
